Sustainable Barkitecture: Solar Powered Dog House With Green Roof

September 11, 2018 by

It’s a sustainable dog’s life in this contemporary canine cottage. The eco-chic timber construction features a turf clad side ramp leading to a slanted green roof with a motion-activated water faucet and integrated irrigation system.

Pups can lounge rooftop with refreshment or stay cool indoors with the shelter’s solar-powered fan.

Inside, the doggie dwelling offers a view to the outdoors through windows on each side and is equipped with a built-in floor drain for easy maintenance and cleaning.

On the exterior, a hidden storage compartment pulls out to offer access to toys, treats and bow wow belongings.

California architecture firm Studio Schicketanz‘s designed the sustainable pooch palace in keeping with their general philosophy for “landscape, architecture and interior design with a focused emphasis on livability.”

This modern hound home and other custom-built dog houses and cat condos designed by local architects and builders will be on display at the Carmel Canine Cottages Competition from September 11 through September 15.  After the event, Alain Pinel Realtors will host a silent auction to raise funds for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Monterey County, California.
