What would happen, asked the designers of this lace fence, if a patch of embroidered wire met with and continued as an industrial fence? Hostility versus kindness, as they put it, industrial versus craft…

Lace Fence, the creation of the Dutch firm Demakersvan, is constructed of a high-end metal fabric and coated steel wire. The design, quality, and density of the patterns are flexible and custom produced, so form follows function–each fence is created according to its functional requirements. The design can be conceived to prevent people from climbing on it, to hide or enhance its surroundings, to deal with harsh weather, or just to make something that’s both functional and nice to look at.
