Gardener’s Sofa and Table
September 25, 2011 by Robin Plaskoff Horton
You know how much I love designs that do double duty, especially since they are great for small spaces. Like Swedish designer Eva Schildt’s Gardener’s Sofa and Table that transform classical outdoor items into lightweight objects that not only function as different pieces, but are also easily anchored for stability.
Is the sofa a garden bench or a trellis for plants and flowers, or both? Can’t you just imagine growing vines up the back of this bench? Or perhaps tomatos? Is the table, below, a tabletop with a birdbath or planter on a stick, or both?
The sofa and table are made of lacquered steel. Sofa: 91 x 75 x 81 cm (36″ x 29.5″ x 32″). Table: Diam. 35 cm, Height 70 cm (Diam. 14″, Height 27.5″).
Schildt’s Gardener’s Sofa and Table was a recipient of the Excellent Swedish Design award, and is featured in the Design Collection at the National Museum in Stockholm.
Note: I don’t think the pieces are currently in production, or are perhaps made to order. The designer is represented by Design House Stockholm, through whom you may inquire about product availability.
