Science Students Rap About Photosynthesis
June 6, 2016 by Robin Plaskoff Horton
Talk about making science fun! Want to learn about photosynthesis? A team of four 7th and 8th grade students from the Nueva School in Hillsborough, California rap about photosynthesis in They Grow, a ‘science-ified” version of the popular Drake rap song, Headlines.
Created during science teacher Tom McFadden’s twice-weekly Science Rap Academy, the students–Stanley, Alex, Quincy and Jason–start with the basics then move on to the intricate processes of light reaction and the Calvin cycle. The kids meet twice a week at the Science Rap Academy to research the science, write and record lyrics, conceptualize, shoot, and edit a science music video.
“I think that this song and video that we have created will help provide students learning about photosynthesis with a fun, engaging and relatable way to learn how plants grow,” commented Co-Producer and Rapper, Alex.
Learn about photosynthesis while you enjoy They Grow, the first of five student-produced science music videos from the 2015-2016 Science Rap Academy. Love that science students rap!
