I love Norwegian designer Philipp von Hase’s seed shaped “plantable” (plant table, I love the name too) crafted from fine walnut and maple wood with a handmade porcelain bowl.

Multi-functional planted furniture like this is also a great space saver for small apartments.

Introduced at the 100% Norway exhibition of Tent London during The London Design Festival, Spire was originally created for an educational center in Bergen that teaches all about using and swapping seeds.

Spire’s top is composed of two separate removable pieces to allow for storage beneath the table. When the flat top is added, it conceals the planter bowl making the plant appear to rise out of the table.

Drawing inspiration from Hundertwasser’s Baummieter (Tree Tenants) and Andy Goldsworthy’s seed sculptures, Hires says he designed and built Spire, in his words, as a “metamorphosis of an avocado-sunflower seed-walnut shell.”
