Smog Eating Roof Tiles

A sustainable concrete roofing tile that reduces the formation of smog, BoralPure, winner of the Popular Mechanics 2011 Breakthrough Award announced today, is the only concrete tile roofing solution in the U.S. that mitigates air pollution.
The tile’s coating contains TiO2 (titanium dioxide), which reacts with and neutralizes the NOX (nitrogen oxide) particles in smog.
The harmless byproduct accumulates on the roof and washes away in the rain. With no machinery or energy input other than sunlight, the air-cleansing tiles mitigate the same amount of nitrogen oxide (the major component of smog) produced by one car driving up to 10,800 miles.

Thats really interesting, there are a lot of articles around recently looking into the environmental benefit of using various different tiles. I just read that ceramic tiles ahve the same benfits of solar tiles? All exciting stuff.

Love the idea! but calcium nitrates are as dangerous if not more dangerous in human beings as nitrogen oxides. and also this impliment upon your roof does not allow for that building to use rain water (Taken into account that if smog and acid rain are prevelant, rain water is dangerous) that can be used for irrigation.
