Bioplastic Planter That Feeds a Tree

Dutch designer Bas Van der Veer’s Bioplastic Planter is made entirely from renewable bioplastics. The idea is that after planting a tree with the Bioplastic Planter, the planter protects it from falling over, then starts to slowly biodegrade in the soil, at the same time feeding the tree. The planter’s handles are intended to make it easy to grip for transporting and planting.

The designer claims that, as the roots of the tree find their way through the ground, the tree feeds on the Bioplastic Planter. I’m not sure by what the tree is being nourished, but I like the concept for its biodegradable properties.

Hmmm…not sure about this one! It gets props for being biodegradable and for presumably feeding the tree, but it’s kind of ugly. I’m not sure I could sell that to my clients! Also, I wonder how long it takes the thing to biodegrade, because I don’t like to stake trees after the first year.

Looks a little random- but the dutch always know how to do things well! I wouldn’t rule it out. And I agree w/ Jenny that it’s a little ugly, but in a space aged funky way.
