I’m Floored By These Outdoor Rugs

August 29, 2012 by

Here’s a good example of interior decor stepping outside. To satisfy so many of their high-end clients who requested carpets to put on their yacht decks, Hong Kong-based manufacturer of custom, hand-tufted carpets, Tai Ping, just had to launch an outdoor rug collection.

Sculptural Patterns
These are indoor worthy carpets–generously-sized square, rectangular and round shapes in a variety of arabesque and geometric patterns in sumptuous and soft grey, white, blue and taupe hues–offer a sculpted finish with a soft touch and natural appearance. Designed to withstand water and UV rays,  the range is made to the same standards as Tai Ping’s existing hand made interior collection–so if you happen to have a yacht you can rest assured that you’ll have both style, quality, and comfort underfoot.

Like Their Indoor Siblings
If however, like I, you don’t own a yacht, these rugs are pretty nice on a roof terrace or larger patio. The outdoor collection embodies many of the same design sensibilities as the carpets for which is Tai Ping is known, though these are made from polypropylene fibers, so they’re fast-drying after a downpour, bacteria-resistant, and sunlight won’t diminish their colors.

I’ll be checking them out when I’m in Paris next week reporting from Maison & Objet, and may stop by the company’s new European flagship shop in Saint-Germain-de-Prés.
